Junior Proficiencies
It is essential that Nippers have completed their pool proficiencies before they participate in any
nipper activities on the beach. The criteria for the proficiencies are as follows:

U6:
Flotation
–  Back or front float for minimum of 5 seconds, recover to stand.
Submersion – Submerge to touch the bottom of with hands
Propulsion – Push and glide from pool wall (distance 1-2 m) recover to stand

 

U7:
Flotation
–  Back or front float for minimum of 10 seconds, recover to stand.
Submersion –Submerge to touch the bottom with hands.
Propulsion – Push and glide from pool wall, kick (distance 2-3 m) recover to stand

 

U8:
Flotation
–  Back or front float for minimum of 15 seconds, recover to stand.
Submersion – Submerge to touch the bottom with hands
Propulsion – From pool wall swim on front any stroke (20 m) followed by swim underwater (2-3 m)

 

U9:
Flotation
– Front to back float or back to front float – 5 seconds each side. Tread water and / or sculling for minimum  1 minute.
Submersion – Submerge to touch the bottom with hands.
Propulsion – Swim on front any stroke for 25m followed by survival stroke, breaststroke and/or sidestroke and/or back sculling for minimum 10 metres.

 

U10:
Flotation
– Front to back float or back to front float – 5 seconds each side. Tread water and / or sculling for minimum  1 minute.
Submersion – Submerge to touch the bottom with hands.
Propulsion – Swim on front through water any stroke for 25 m followed by survival breaststroke and/or sidestroke and/or back sculling for minimum 25 metres.

 

U11:
Flotation
– Front to back float or back to front float – 5 seconds each side. Tread water and/or sculling for minimum 2 minutes.
Submersion – Submerge to perform forward or backward roll underwater, recover to surface, submerge to touch the bottom with hands.
Propulsion – Swim on front through water any stroke for 25 m followed by survival breaststroke and/or sidestroke and/or back sculling for minimum 50 m

 

U12:
Flotation
– Front to back float or back to front float – 5 sec each side. Tread water and/or sculling for minimum 3 minutes.
Submersion – Submerge to perform forward or backward roll/somersault underwater, recover to surface, submerge to touch the bottom with hands.
Propulsion – Swim on front through water any stroke for 75 metres followed by survival stroke(s) breaststroke and/or sidestroke for minimum 50 metres.

 

U13:
Flotation
– Front to back float or back to front float – 5 sec each side. Tread water and/or sculling for minimum 3 minutes.
Submersion – Submerge to perform forward or backward roll/somersault underwater, recover to surface, submerge to touch bottom with hands.
Propulsion – Swim on front through water any stroke for 100 m followed by survival stroke(s) breaststroke and/or sidestroke for minimum 50 metres.

 

U14:
Flotation
– Front to back float or back to front float – 5 sec each side. Tread water and/or sculling for minimum 3 minutes.
Submersion – Submerge to perform forward or backward roll/somersault underwater, do not recover to surface, submerge to touch the bottom with hands.
Propulsion – Swim on front through water any stroke for 100 m followed by survival stroke(s) breaststroke and/or sidestroke for minimum 100 metres.
