This season we are pleased to introduce our Jupiters Summer Surf Girl entrant, Jane Lillingstone. Some words from Jane...
I am honoured and very excited to be the ambassador for Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club in the 2011/2012 Jupiters Summer Surf Girl program.
My grandfather established the first ambulance station in Coolangatta in 1917 and my mum was a highly successful business woman here on the Gold Coast. Some of the older ones may have seen her on TV or heard her on the radio promoting the Gold Coast in the days of the late Sir Bruce Small. My dad swept mum off her feet and convinced her to move to Melbourne which is where I was born and grew up.
I first became involved in Surf Life Saving when I was 17 at Torquay SLSC, Victoria. My parents know how much I love Surf Life Saving so they would drive the four and a half hour round trip to Torquay for me to do training and patrols. In my first season in Surf Life Saving I got my Bronze Medallion, IRB Crewman’s, ARC and other awards and loved every minute of it!
When I completed my double university degree at the end of last year (Arts and Secondary Teaching), I couldn’t wait to move to the Gold Coast. Now I am here to stay!
The day after I arrived on the Gold Coast I came to Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club and got training straight away. I’m currently redoing my Bronze Medallion and look forward to attaining more qualifications this season. I am the age manager for the under 6 Nippers and can’t wait for this all to begin!
I’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes planning and organizing fundraising events to help us generate money for our club. Jupiters Summer Surf Girl is a facilitator for our club to generate funds to help us run and grow. All money raised by us for this competition goes directly to our club.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our community, Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club, to pull together and make this a huge success!
Thank you for your contribution and I look forward to seeing you around the club!
