This season, we were fortunate to receive funding to the value of $33,000 towards a new 4WD Rescue Operation Support Vehicle. This allows us to tow our inflatable Rescue Boats and patrol trailer between the club house and the beach safely as our old 4WD was deteriorating fast. Thank you Gambling Community Benefit Fund from all the members at Mermaid Beach AEME SLSC.

Mermaid Beach SLSC Supporters Club

The supporters club is starting to look like a Surf Club with a 1960’s vintage surf ski being placed on display over the northern deck.  Note the St Christopher Medal embedded into the front deck of the ski (patron saint of travelers) and no doubt affording the paddler some comfort in open ocean paddling.  Mick Fitzgerald, son Sean assisted other nipper parents in the install.

The Ski is on loan from a local resident who is supportive of the Life Saving effort.  Keep watching for further developments.

Youth Excellence Ball, 8th May 2010

On the 8th May, 2010, 4 of our younger members, Scott Moreton, Emma Ross, Ashlee Gray and Kathryn Roberts attended the Youth Excellence Ball, chaperoned by Greg Moreton. This was the 1st year the ball was held and brought together our SLS youth from both the South Coast and Point Danger Branches. It was an opportunity for those who attended to celebrate the end of the season in style, with the event being a black tie ball. The party went till 11pm, with a 3 course meal and a disco to keep them on the dance floor (see Ashlee “strutting her stuff” on the dance floor to what looks like The Nut Bush).

The night also include a video on the Youth Involvement Program from SLSQ and the presentation of the YIP Gold award and YIPs Club of the Year.
